September 2005: “Ground Zero: 9/11/01” by Lucie Pavlovich
On September 11, a day the world will never forget, the Sony Gallery opened its first exhibition of the year “Ground Zero: 9/11/01” by the Czech Lucie Pavlovich. The powerful photographs of police, fire-fighters and New Yorkers on the smoke filled streets of Ground Zero gave one the chilling feeling of the disaster on a personal level. November 2005 – January 2006: "AUC New Campus Construction Progress" by Ashraf Salloum
Photographs on AUC New Campus Construction Progress were on display at the Sony Gallery during the months of November through December. The photos were taken by Ashraf Salloum, Director of Planning and Design, New Campus Development.
February 2006 - March 2006: “The Cairo Photographs: Whatever I saw before my eyes saw you was a wasted life” by Robert Azzi
Memories and impressions of Cairo were portrayed in the exhibition “The Cairo Photographs: Whatever I saw before my eyes saw you was a wasted life” by Arab-American photojournalist, Robert Azzi. When Azzi first arrived in Cairo in the winter of 1969, he attended an Umm Kalthoum concert and became a captive of the magic of the night, swept up in the currents of the Nile. Since then he continues to return to Cairo with his camera to capture scenes of streets, suqs and homes. Click here to view gallery >>
May 2006 - June 2006: “Algeria lives” by Thomas Hartwell
The dramatic change that happened in the lives of Algerians was reflected in the last show of this year. “Algeria lives’ by American photojournalist, Thomas Hartwell, is an attempt to document the beginning of a new era of Algerian history and express the beauty, diversity, hospitality and humanity Hartwell encountered in his stay. In 2005, with the help of a Fulbright grant, Hartwell was able to spend a year living and teaching in Algiers and photographing the country emerging from this dark period in its history.
