September 2006 – October 2006: “Blue Nile : From Lake Tana to Debre Markos” by Mireia Cano
In December of 2005 the Fables of the Nile expedition set off on foot to follow a historical river journey: the Blue Nile from Ethiopia to Sudan and on to Egypt . Spanish photographer Mireia Cano joined the first leg of the journey, from Lake Tana to Debre Markos in the scenic Amharic highlands of Ethiopia , documenting the livelihoods of the peoples living along the banks of the river. The result, a set of images full of breathtaking scenery and expressions of unmatched hospitality, was on display at the Sony Gallery for Photography. Click here to view gallery >>
December 2006: “Reflections: A Second Look”
On December 4, 2006 The Sony Gallery presented a group exhibition by 29 photographers from their archival collection. The photographs included scenes of everyday life, monuments, historic photos, war coverage... etc.
January 2007: “AUC New Campus Construction Progress” by Ashraf Salloum
The Photographs on AUC New Campus showed the tremendous progress the construction has undergone since the last exhibit in November 2005.
March 2007: “Fragrance from the Sufi Garden” by Shems Friedlander
This show was a collection of documentary photos of the whirling dervishes. Through his photographs, Friedlander carried the viewer along the spiritual journey of the dervishes allowing him to have a glimpse at the eternal Divine Garden and experience its fragrance. Click here to view gallery >>
May 2007: “Searching for Unity: Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Israel” A Group Exhibit of Photographs
In January 2007, carrying their own perspectives and their own cameras, a delegation of 20 students and activists from the American University undertook a twelve day voyage through Lebanon , Jordan , the occupied West Bank , and Israel . Led by Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim, Chairman of the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies in Cairo and professor of political sociology at the American University in Cairo , the group directly experienced verbal and visual narratives of the political discourse of the Middle East . The trip resulted in a collection of interesting photographs that were portrayed at the Sony Gallery.
