Water Heater Design

Objectives:
The aim of the thesis is to build a water heater. The design of the heater is
divided in to two parts: thermal and mechanical design. Thermal design deals
with the heat transfer aspects to insure that a sufficient amount of heat was
passed to water in the heater.
Achievements:
The thesis team has developed a program that can do the heat transfer
calculations. As for the Mechanical Design, Several parameters were put in
consideration. Theses parameters depend on the thermal design as well as some
equations from the ASME code for pressure vessels. There were several parts to
be manufactured. The main parts were: the shell, tube plates, furnace and gas
tubes. After manufacturing the heater was tested. The thesis also discussed some
of the safety factors that were associated with the use of the heater.
