Series III: Correspondence (box 3)
The majority of the correspondence deals with Creswell’s book research. He corresponded with many scholars, museums, editors, and even governments from around the world. The letters are largely in English, but some are in Italian, Arabic, or French. The later correspondence comprises mostly personal and congratulatory cards for either the publishing of his books, holiday greetings, the announcement of his knighthood, or for the celebration of his 90th birthday. Some of the remaining correspondence includes commentary on Creswell’s photo collection and research from scholars and other institutions, such as Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Richard Ettinghausen, the United Arab Republic Ministry of Culture (1960s), the Government of Palestine Department of Antiquities (1930s), and the Tunisian Government. Other correspondence is located in the research notes series, where Creswell had originally filed it. |
