Getting PCs ready for the move

Academic Computing Services (ACS) will be responsible for facilitating the relocation of AUC's computers and related peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) to the new campus.

ACS will be in charge of the disassembly of faculty and staff computers, and their reassembly on the new campus with the new network configurations. The exceptions will be the School of Business, Economics and Communication, departmental computer labs, the English Language Institute, Arabic Language Institute and Department of Rhetoric and Composition, which will make other arrangements.

As a preliminary measure, ACS is requesting that the AUC community adhere to the following steps and precautions:

  • Computer passwords must be disabled before the assigned move date.
  • All faculty and staff members must ensure that access to their office and PC are secured with their respective move caption.
  • All faculty and staff members are strongly advised to make a backup of the data on their PC onto an external media/drive.
  • Procedures for carrying out a backup, and specifications on the purchase of external media, including recommended hardware, will be posted on AUC On The Move in the coming weeks.
  • Orientation sessions will soon be provided by ACS on how to carry out a backup (Window, Macintosh). To sign up, please send an email with your name and department to acs@aucegypt.edu.
