An Egyptian company will be providing a variety of food outlets on the new campus, ranging from Egyptian, Italian and Asian cuisine, to fast food.
Delicious Inc, which operates the Cilantro retail coffee shop chain brand and a consortium of food outlets, will offer three types of outlets on the new campus. The kiosks - such as Cilantro - will serve mostly salads, sandwiches, and deserts, while the food court will have an assortment of hot, cooked meals. In the separate dining halls, faculty, students, and custodians, will be able to choose from a hot buffet.
The partners selected by Delicious Inc., are Abu El Sid, Cinnabon, McDonald’s, Rehana, Sbarro, Tabasco, Taboule, Teriyaki, and Wayout Sushi.
Delicious Inc., owned by AUC alumnus Hesham El-Sewedy, is currently conducting a survey among AUC students to gauge demand, with surveys directed to staff and faculty planned for the new year. “The input that we get back will make us adjust some of our offers,” said Nadine Beshir, general manager of Cilantro.
“Through our wide range of partners we plan to provide the largest possible selection that will fit all budgets,” said Beshir. To ensure customer satisfaction, the company will comply with international food safety standards and will also provide a hotline and an email for complaints, inquiries and suggestions.
Cilantro will have six outlets across the campus, and plans to open its first café on the new campus in May 2008. The other outlets will be fully operational by September.
“We don’t know yet what the operating hours for all the outlets will be,” explained Beshir. “We need to be flexible since we are catering to people who have very different schedules, and who may be spending more time on campus.”
