Parking on the New Campus

Parking lots are available across different parts of the campus. While they are located outside the pedestrian-only zone on the campus, they are also conveniently situated within walking distance of all pedestrian entrances to the inner campus and the main buildings. Parking will be ‘open’ and spaces or lots will not be reserved on an individual or group basis.  There will be a ‘Visitors Only’ lot for short-term parking located at the end of the campus nearest the Park & Square, Welcome Center, Bookstore and PVA Theater.

In the recently conducted transportation survey, the university also asked respondents to indicate if they planned to drive to campus. The responses to the survey are being used to estimate the demand for on-campus parking so that the plans can be designed based on need.   Initial plans call for about 2,000 spaces to be available when the campus opens.

Beginning with the fall semester, on-campus parking will require an AUC parking permit. Parking policies and guidelines, including permit procedures and pricing, are now in development, taking into account the suggestions made by many of the survey participants.  During the transition and move-in period beginning in June 2008, access to on-campus parking will require a valid AUC ID card.

It is expected that details of the parking program will be available in late January.
