The Voice
Last Thursday, a number of outraged students and faculty decided to join the protest at the Journalists Syndicate after mobs sexually assaulted women downtown during Eid. We sent a reporter and photographer to cover the protest and the efforts made by AUC students to speak up. To our surprise, we received a phone call from our photographer saying that he was the only male from AUC walking with the girls to the protest.

De-legitimizing Critical Thought at AUC
The Caravan’s letter dated Nov. 5, criticized the October issue of Middle Eastern Studies Center (MESC) newsletter. Although criticism is an essential part of any academic institution, that particular issue of MESC newsletter is not only poor in comparison to earlier issues, but is also an embarrassment to have such a publication associated with AUC. I have been following the MESC newsletter since it was first started by Professor Abdelaziz Ezzelarab when he was the Director of MESC in 1999-2000.

Bittersweet Egypt
 Safaa AbdounIt seems like the semester is coming to an end really soon, meaning final exams are just around the corner. However, instead of taking this time to study and prepare for finals, we are all cramming and staying up all night for assignments, midterms (which are weeks after the actual middle-of-the-term) and projects. No one has any time to study when we are too busy stressing about meeting deadlines and doing everything properly. .

 Rehaam RomeroI never knew that the seven sins included “thou shall not think.” Recently, it seems like anyone who dares to think or question anything religious is condemned a “heretic” or at least blasphemous. Those who dare try to rationalize or process any religious thoughts are often criticized and attacked on the sole grounds of committing the crime of thinking. God gave Muslims three important guides to follow in our lives; the Koran, the hadith, and the brain that differentiates us from other beings.
