AUC is doing it old-school

If you’ve tried to open your AUC web mail lately or use AUC’s phone lines, then you may have been surprised by the fact that both systems were down. Now you might have been thinking, how could an established, advanced institution like AUC lose the use of these basic necessities for such a long time? The email, which was down for more than a week, followed by the phone lines, caused a near – total communication system failure in AUC.

Daddy,
Help me be independent

After having another one of my, “you don’t give me enough space, I need my independence,” fights with my father, I stormed out of our apartment, which he pays for; got into my car, previously owned by my mother and told my driver, who was hired by my father, to take me to university, which is very regretfully paid for by my father. All I was missing was a huge sign that reads, “Sponsored by Daddy,” to complete that wonderful look of hypocrisy I was going for.

Objective student leaders at AUC?

What does it mean to be objective? Literally, it means to be undistorted by emotional or personal bias. As a journalism and mass communication student, the first concept I learned was “Be Objective,” and I had to implement that in every aspect of my life at the American University in Cairo when I became part of the Caravan team.

Setting the record straight

In my previous letter I made it very clear that I was not questioning Model UN’s right and permission to hold their event in the fountain area, but the idea that their event impinged on the rights of other student groups to engage in their own activities, which were undertaken with equal permission and advance planning. Additionally, my letter was not meant to question the right of Model UN to hold whatever type of event they see fit, but to call attention to the image that they are presenting to the high school students participating in their event, as well as the wider AUC community which is, by association, represented (at least to the high school students involved) by Model UN’s actions.
