Al Quds Club Honors Palestinian Martyrs

Al Quds Club organized their yearly event, Youm El Ard (Land Day), which took place on March 30 in Ewart Hall, to honor the six Palestinians who were killed by Israeli state security forces in 1976 during a protest over Israeli expropriations of Arab land.
The Ambassador of Palestine, Zuhdi al-Qudweh advocated the unity and strength of Al Quds Club in his speech. “ Will the people back in Palestine be like the younger ones in Al Quds Club, united and unified in order to be able to defeat the enemy?“ he asked.
“Nayef Hawtmeny, founding member of the Palestinian Liberal Organization (PLO), came specifically from Jordan to speak about Palestinian liberation and the battle of Karama,” said Fouad Hassan, a member of the Quds Club.
“The hall was packed with people and we received calls to congratulate us on the event,” said Hassan, adding that many were pleased with the variety of lectures and performances, which included a poetry reading by Harun Hashim Rashid and a performance of the Dabka, the Palestinian naitonal dance, by memebrs of the club.
A musical performance by Azza Balbaa, an Egyptian patriotic singer who revived the songs of Sheikh Imam and Ahmed Fouad Nigm, was one of the highlights of the evening.
“Even though there was a lot of time and effort spent to [develop] a sequence for the event, it was very rewarding,” said Hassan.
