The AUC Press Professional Training Program 2008–2009
The annual Professional Training Program at the AUC Press was established to provide recent university graduates and other Egyptian and foreign residents of Cairo with a special opportunity to receive professional training at the AUC Press and to learn about the purposes and procedures of book publishing, including editing, sales and marketing, design and production, promotion and public relations, bookselling, and administration. Successful professional trainees are also considered for permanent assistant positions which may become available at the AUC Press. Click here for more information >>

Student volunteer needed to assist a student with a visual disability Are you interested in helping students with visual impairments in doing his assignments, projects, etc?  Requirements:  Reliable and willing to devote a few hours per week helping this student.  Compensation and recognition will be provided.   If interested, contact Iman Omary at 2.797.5712 or pass by the mentoring unit at 5 Yousef El Guindi Street, 3rd floor.

 

Music for Harpsichord and Arias for Voice
The performing and visual arts department (PVA) will be hosting a concert featuring the music of Bach, Couperin, Monteverdi, D. Scarlatti and Vivaldi. The event will feature John Baboukis on harpsichord and mezzo-soprano Gala El Hadidi and will take place on Monday, June 30 at 8:00 pm in the Falaki Studio Theatre. Dual Percussion Concert by Karim Nagi and The Percussion Factory Group
The performing and visual arts department (PVA) will be hosting a dual percussion concert by Karim Nagi and Al-Masnaa (The Percussion Factory Group). Current Issues of 650 Newspapers Available
Libraries and Learning Technologies has vastly expanded its provision of current newspaper issues. Library PressDisplay is now available to AUC. It provides access to the latest 60 days of more than 650 newspapers from around the world.  Newspapers are presented in their traditional format and layout, including complete editorial content, graphics and advertising. Twenty-two Arabic language newspapers are included, such as Al Watan and Asharq Al-Awsat . Access is limited to 6 concurrent users. This means if 6 others are reading newspapers, a message to try again later will be displayed. You need to click Sign Out (upper right corner) when you finish, to free your place for someone else.  For the off-campus link to this and other electronic resources, visit the library's Find Articles webpage. Oxford Islamic Studies Online Updates
The first major update to Oxford Islamic Studies Online brings an impressive breadth of content to the site.  Over 200 new and revised articles from the forthcoming Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World (2008) expand coverage of people, places, events and concepts from all periods of Islamic history.  This added information is illustrated and expanded by 166 new images of art, architecture, and individuals.  Finally, 43 new full-color maps from the Atlas of the World's Religions, accompanied by text edited by Simonetta Calderini, provide valuable insight into the growth of Islam and its role in the world today. Communication and Media Arts Major

Integrated Marketing Communication Major

The Mass Communication Association (MCA) is organizing a special event for the occasion: "Explore Your Future with JMC Faculty."
This important occurrence will introduce the three new majors on April 9 during assembly hour in the Ewart Hall.

Briefings on the new majors will be followed by a Q & A session with their coordinators and faculty.

Students, advisors, administrators and parents are welcomed to attend the event for any queries.



Khamasin: First Edition of AUC's Journal of Social and Political Studies is Now Online
AUC is announcing the inaugural edition of its open-access e-journal for social and political studies: Khamasin . The summer 2008 edition contains the following articles:
- Culture, Violence and Development, Dan Tschirgi on Upper Egypt and the Gama'a al-Islamiyya
- The Ivory Coast, Michael Birmingham on the West African conflict
- Sustainable Development, Deena Khalil on an alternative approach
- U.S. Foreign Policy, James Petretta on the Iraq wars

The Khamasin journal, started in 2006 by AUC's Department of Political Science, is intended to serve as a forum for learning and dialogue within the AUC community and beyond. This quarterly seeks to publish theoretical, field and research driven studies which address a variety of issues within the scope of political science in particular, and the social sciences in general. Khamasin invites a variety of submission formats: articles and essays, monographs, book chapters, working papers, reviews, talks and conference papers, responses/rebuttals and commentaries. As well, interdisciplinary ventures which address, directly or indirectly, issues of political concern are welcome from all sectors of the social sciences and humanities.

Military and Visa Services Unit 

To Undergraduate Egyptian Male Students only .

Undergraduate Egyptian Male Students born in 1989 or before are requested to see Miss. Suzan Osman at room main 133, Military and Visa Services Unit, Office of the University Registrar, to submit their MILITARY SERVICE CARDS AND FORMS for deferring their military service.

Students are to go to their " Segel Madani " that issued their National I.D. to receive their Military Service Card then submit the card with Namouzaz 2 gond at room 133Main.

For those born in 1990, 1991 or 1992 who did not submit a copy of their National I.D. card please submit a photocopy of the National I.D.card at room 133Main.

Students who fail to do that by April 6 ,2008 will have a hold on their registration screens and will not be able to process web registration for Summer/Fall 2008 Semesters which will start on the 6 of May 2008.

 

NEW CAMPUS RESEARCH GROUP NEEDS RESEARCH ASSISTANTS. An interdisciplinary research group at the Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Egyptology department is looking for graduate and advanced undergraduate students to volunteer as research assistants, primarily as interviewers and Internet (e.g., Facebook) data coordinators. The project is researching several aspects of the old versus new campus including peoples' perceptions and anxieties towards the move, shifts in cultures and structures of academic gated communities, student social relationships and social mapping, school pride, connections with the community and community service, and loss and coping among the "people we leave behind". This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dynamic and exciting research team and gain skills in interviewing, data analysis, and other research methods.
