Non-Muslim Communities in the Muslim World

Offered in alternate years.
The course will examine the history of non-Muslim communities in the Muslim world. Special focus will be on Egypt. It considers legal status, problems of identity, contribution to the cultural life and social life of societies, participation in Mediterranean trade, and interaction and relations between non-Muslim communities and Muslims as well as the non-Muslim world.
