Prerequisites: ENGR 229 and 261. Offered in fall and spring.
Index properties and engineering classification, composition and structure of soils; water flow in soil media; stresses in soil, stress-strain properties of soils; shear strength, and consolidation. Experimental measurement. Lab and field compaction. Fundamental problems of slope stability; methods of stability analysis. Three class periods and one three-hour lab period.
