Prerequisite: PHYS 215, PHYS 221L. Concurrent with PHYS 305L. Offered in fall. Principles of measurement: accuracy, precision, errors, methods and design issues. Applications: measurement of density, pressure, viscosity, level; heat, temperature, flow rates, turbidity, humidity, air quality and moisture in solids. Measurements of electromagnetic properties. Instrument systems: calibration, standards and dynamic response. Introduction to Transducers: Measuring and indicating elements, lumped circuit model. Installation: procedures; loop testing; troubleshooting. |
