Lab 1: Report Requirements (Due 26, 27/2/2006):
A maximum of 5 pages, including the cover page, should include the following:
Critique of safety procedure in the workshop
A sketch of the lathe, the shaper, and the milling machine showing their main components and their functions.
Lab 2: FischerTechnick Components (the Lathe):
Report Requirements (Due 26, 27/2/2006)
Introduce at least three modifications to the assembled lathe.
Comment on team work during the lab.
Report is maximum 2 pages including cover page
Lab 3: Electrical Control Components II:
Report Requirements (Due 5, 6/3/2006)
Use the attached symbols document and components presentation to:
Draw a circuit diagram of a conveyor belt system that will start when a photoconductive cell senses an object on the belt. The belt stops when the object hits a limit switch. The belt stays off even when the object is removed.
Design a circuit in which a bimetallic strip turns on an alarm light when heat increases. The alarm stays on until it is manually switched off.
Report is maximum 2 pages including cover page
One report for each group who performed the lab together
Lab 4: Pneumatic Control Components II:
Report Requirements (Due 16/3/2006)
Modify the circuit diagram below to reflect the work of the press as developed in the lab.
Search the net for other Fischertechnik pneumatic applications and present an additional application with its pneumatic circuit diagram.
One report per group. Maximum thee pages including the cover page
Lab 5: Hydraulic Control Components I:
No report is required for this lab. The report will be combined with that of Lab7.
Check The Hydraulics Presentation (This is FYI. We covered few slides only)
Project 1 requires using Fischertechnik components to build a conveyor system that will start automatically when a part is placed on it. When the part reaches the end of the conveyor, the conveyor is stopped and the part is picked and placed in a box. The whole cycle repeats when another part is placed at the beginning of the conveyor.
You can use any components you want, but you need to bring your own relays if you plan to use any. The system must be built within two hours during the week 19-23 March. A sign up sheet is posted on my door and will be lifted by the end of the day on Wednesday (15 March).
Please video tape your system after constructing it. Your report should include a picture and a circuit diagram of the full system. The circuit diagram should be labeled in a way that explains the functionality of all parts. In addition, include in the report a series of pictures that show the system during construction. These pictures should be sufficient to allow others to duplicate your effort. The report should not exceed 5 pages including the cover page. The video will be submitted electronically and should not exceed 10 MB in size. The report and the video are due on March 30 for all groups.
Lab 7: Hydraulic Control Components II:
Use the FluidSim software package to design and simulate the parallel parking hydraulic mechanism. In the mechanism, 4 cylinders lift the car while 2 hydraulic motors move it aside.
Your report (Due April 10) should not exceed two pages including the cover page. Include a screen capture of your design with typed labels of the various components and a typed paragraph describing the operation of the system using those labels. All lab activities including the report must be done individually.
You may obtain the FluidSim software package by contacting Eng. Khamis (mnabil@aucegypt.edu)
