Biography

         Dr. Hani Henry received his PhD in clinical psychology from Miami University of Ohio in 2006. He has been intensely involved in the areas of teaching, research, and psychotherapy. He is also a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and APA Division 45 ( The Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues)

         In the academic realm, he has taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses at the AUC.  Dr. Henry also designed new graduate courses such as: Fundamentals of counseling, Psychopathology across Cultures, Advanced Human Development, and Arabic for Mental Health Professionals, as well as undergraduate courses such as the Psychology of Dreams.

        In the research realm, Dr. Henry developed a strong interest in the research areas of spirituality and mental health, women empowerment, immigration, acculturation, and the process of loss and mourning.  Dr. Henry’s published work appeared in prestigious peer- refereed journals such as: Journal of Clinical Psychology, Death Studies, Feminist Teacher, Family Journal, Transcultural Psychiatry, Counselling Psychology Quarterly, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and Women's Studies International Forum. He also presented his work in international conferences such as the meetings of the Society for Cross cultural Research (SCCR),  International Conference for the Teaching of Psychology, and the Society for Psychotherapy Research.

          In the clinical realm, Dr. Henry is an active practitioner and a clinical supervisor who received his clinical training in two US university counseling centers, a psychology clinic, and a school based mental health program. Dr. Henry previously provided clinical supervision to psychosocial workers of AMERA (African-Middle East Refugee Assistance).

          In the service realm, Dr. Henry is currently the graduate advisor of the International Counselling and Community Psychology Program (ICCP). He led the psychology unit’s efforts in proposing and initiating the new psychology graduate program and co-chaired its steering committee. Dr. Henry also served as a University Senate member during the AY 2007-2008 and AY 2008-2009 and as a HUSS Academic Affairs Committee member during AY 2010-2011.

           Dr. Henry is a public figure who made numerous appearances in Egyptian TV channels such as Dream TV, Channel 1, CBC, MBC, and Egyptian Satellite Channel. He was also interviewed by many news outlets such as Ahramonline, Watan newspaper, Daily News Egypt, Egypt Today,  Campus Magazine, Radio Monte-Carlo, Associated Press, and National Public Radio (USA).
