Prerequisite: CHEM 203. Offered every other semester. An overview of planning scale-up from laboratory to pilot plant, to production plant, with a focus on models for determining profitability of new projects, new products and new processes. Selected topis from: process design, material and energy balances, mass and heat transfer, reactor kinetics, chemical economics, process design strategies. Wherever possible, principles will be demonstrated with slides or videos from actual industries, supplemented by field trips to local plants. |
