Prerequisite: Graduate standing and consent of instructor. May be taken for credit more than once if contents change. Offered in spring. Topics to be chosen every year according to specific interest e.g. magnetic behavior of materials, optical spectroscopy, electronic solid state devices, amorphous solids, low temperature physics, physics of solar energy and photovoltaic devices, mechanical properties of solids, solid state reactions at higher temperatures, processes of preparing glasses and ceramic materials, physical phenomena of doping, transport phenomena in materials engineering: heat and mass transfer, overall energy, mass and momentum balances; physics of thin films. |
