Prerequisite: MATH 132. Offered once a year. The most commonly used mathematical functions for computing interest and discount rates are discussed. This includes simple, compound, and other forms of interest used in financial valuations, accumulated value and present value, annuities, sinking funds, amortization of debt, and determination of yield rates on securities. The theory developed in the first part of the course is then applied to the valuation of bonds, mortgages, capital budgeting, depreciation methods, and other financial instruments. |
