Ali Hadi is Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science, Founder of the Actuarial Science Program, and former Vice Provost and Director of Graduate Studies and Research at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He obtained his Ph. D. degree with honors in statistics and computer information systems from New York University in 1984. Prior to joining the American University in Cairo in 2000, he served as a Stephen Weiss Presidential Fellow and Professor of Statistics at Cornell University. Hadi is currently Professor Emeritus at Cornell University where, during the years 1984-2000, he served as assistant, associate, and full professor, as well as the chair of the Department of Social Statistics. He was a member of Cornell's Graduate Field of Statistics and the Department of Statistical Science. While at Cornell, Hadi received several scholarly honors and awards including the Amoco Foundation Faculty Award, the Outstanding Educator Award, and the Schering-Plough Award for Exemplary Teaching. At AUC, he also received the President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2010 and the Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavor Award in 2007.
