Supporting Arab Partners

American University in Cairo/American University of Beirut Collaboration

The Wellcome Trust continues to support collaboration between the Social Research Center and the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut. The objective of the program is to complement and capitalize on the relative advantages of both institutions through strengthening academic links and sharing expertise. The program provides a supportive institutional environment for intellectual exchange, staff development through visiting fellowships and the training of graduate students. It thus expands research opportunities, especially for young scholars. Collaborative activities include sharing expertise and teaching materials for training courses on reproductive health and research techniques. Areas in which research expertise is being shared and expanded are health sector reform, reproductive health, and aging.

Situation Analysis of Children in the Gulf Countries

This project supports the preparation of situation analyses of children in the Gulf countries. As with earlier studies of the situation of Egyptian children and women conducted by SRC, this is a rights based analysis. Meeting with experts from SRC, the concerned parties have analyzed the data, discussed priorities and written individual reports for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Palestine CBS (Central Bureau of Statistics) collaboration

The Social Research Center collaborated with the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in the production of three substantial reports: (1) The Dynamics and Determinants of Reproductive Patterns in Palestine; (2) Family Formation Patterns in Palestine; and (3) The Underlying Dynamics of Child Health in Palestine. This project built on past collaboration between the two institutions in research and training, and is designed to contribute to enlarging the scope of health policy discourse, based on accurate information and analysis.
