Women's representation in trade unions is still limited to ordinary positions and to working females in the formal sector. Females are represented in all 23 unions of the Trade Union Federation. However, they constitute only 3.4% of all trade union members.

Women have reached leading positions in only four of the 23 trade unions. Only 0.8% of the females are in the General Union. The largest number of women union officers were in public services (94), education (55), commerce (42), public utilities (38), and tourism and hotels (37). Only one woman is on the Executive Board for the Federation of the Trade Unions of Egypt, along with 22 male members.

Due to the relatively large number of professional women, their share in professional syndicates is quite significant, especially in the nursing, applied art, fine art, and social professional unions. On the other hand, their representation in agricultural unions is relatively low.
